Our physiotherapy and rehab clinic offers a holistic approach to your wellbeing. By offering a diverse range of approaches, our team of experts are able to better assist you with your pain and discomfort.

Treatment by Amberlea Physiotherapy & Rahab Clinic

At Amberlea Physiotherapy we believe in a holistic approach to your health and wellbeing. Everything is connected, and when one aspect of your health or physicality breaks down, it can lead to problems in other areas.

Knowing this, we offer a multitude of treatments, all designed to heal a particular area or problem using a specific method or treatment, but with health of the body and being as a whole in mind. No matter what your injury, area and level of pain, how it transpired, or the treatment it requires, our services have your back (or your knee, or your neck, or your foot…). We will customize a treatment specific to your pain and problem, with the end goal being the release of pain, and a return to normal life, health and wellbeing.

With that in mind, we offer the following services:

Physiotherapy

When you’re going about your daily business, lifting, bending, twisting, sitting, standing, or when you’re playing sports and everything feels good and your body is doing what it should, it’s easy to take your body for granted. And then it happens: something twists the way it shouldn’t; something strange tweaks and leaves you in pain and incapacitated; you lift something incorrectly; you take a fall or bad landing, and boom! You’re in pain. Now imagine that you are unable to turn your head, pick up so much as a mug, bend over, or even sit still for a single second due to excruciating pain. This creates a huge disruption in your day to day activities as well as your well-being, both physical and mental.

At our physiotherapy clinic in Pickering not only will we fix the symptoms, thus relieving you of pain, but we will get to the root cause of the issue, learning about your body, and fix that in order to create a long sustaining recovery.

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)

Until you’ve experienced good massage therapy – really good massage therapy, performed by registered experts in the field who are passionate about their profession and your recovery – you will never know the enormous benefits you can reap from it. Performed correctly, and tailored specifically to your individual problem and your body’s unique response to treatment, registered massage therapy can vastly improve your quality of life, far beyond the original issue you came in for.

At our massage therapy clinc in Pickering, our registered massage therapists have years and years of experience changing lives by healing muscle tension, physical injury, stress, tension headaches, stress-related conditions, circulatory issues and much, much more.

Motor Vehicle Accident Rehab

Did you know that what may feel like a minor injury right after your car accident, nothing more than a bruise or a tweak, can, in fact, lead to long-term pain and serious ongoing problems? You may even think you’re not injured at all… Until the shock wears off a day or two later when a previously unfelt pain becomes excruciating, which can normally be explained by soft tissue damage. This is why we cannot stress enough the importance of visiting a physiotherapist for an assessment right after you get into a car accident, no matter how minor the fender bender, or how ‘invisible’ or seemingly innocuous the injury and any associated pain.

Whether you’re suffering from whiplash or bruising, a fracture or a twisted ankle, unexplained swelling or inflammation, a proper diagnosis and personalized treatment plan between your family doctor and your Amberlea physiotherapist is critical for recovering from a motor vehicle accident.

Acupuncture

Rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, but based in modern practice, acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment method which has been used for over 3000 years to help heal various musculoskeletal injuries and other sources of pain. By pinpointing, quite literally, acupuncture points with hair thin needles, and then manipulating them with gentle and specific movements, practitioners are able to electrically stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes work to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities to release pain and promote physical and emotional well-being.

Acupuncture has been proven to very effectively treat multiple painful conditions, including neck and back pain, sciatica, repetitive strain injuries, arthritis, nerve entrapment and so much more.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic, a system of individualized therapy focused on the unique structure of your body, is a proven method of relieving pain, particularly in relation to the spine and spinal adjustments. Utilizing gentle, but targeted and highly effective hands on care, chiropractors manipulate your musculoskeletal system and your body’s alignment to relieve pain, improve function, and help the body heal itself.

While the mainstay of chiropractic is spinal manipulation, your chiropractic care at Amberlea Physiotherapy may also include other treatments, including postural and exercise education, as well as ergonomic training (how to walk, sit, and stand to limit back strain and other musculoskeletal pain points).

Sports Injuries

For many of us, our sports activities are not only what keep us fit and physically healthy, but also sane and happy. Which is why any sports injury – no matter how small or how big – is so much more than just a passing pain and a temporary inconvenience. Sports injuries can have a really big impact on your life. But with the proper care and treatment, by specialists in the field of physiotherapy for sports injuries like the Amberlea Physiotherapy team, they don’t have to.

At Amberlea Physiotherapy we know that each sports injury, and each body, is unique. Accordingly, we design a sports injury rehabilitation plan which will have you back on your feet and in the game as quickly, and safely, as possible. Plus, we create those plans with your future in mind, strengthening you in all the right places to prevent future injuries.

Chronic Pain Management

Did you know that more than 1.5 billion people around the world have chronic pain, and 15% of Canadians suffer from chronic pain syndrome? Chronic pain is not just your imagination. And you don’t just have a low pain threshold. Defined as pain that lasts at least 12 weeks, chronic pain can persist for months, years even, all the while limiting not only your mobility, but reducing your flexibility, strength, endurance, and significantly impacting your enjoyment of life.

Understanding all this, our professionals follow a multi-disciplinary care approach which may include visits to our Amberlea physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, or acupuncturists. This approach has shown major success in giving chronic pain sufferers significant relief along with ways to effectively manage chronic pain on an ongoing basis.

Work Related Injuries (WSIB)

Injuries can, and so often do, occur in the workplace. Even, sometimes, with the most stringent workplace safety rules and regulations in place. Heck, injuries can, and do, occur in everyday life. We can’t avoid them all, all of the time. That being said, once you have the injury you need to get it fixed, and fast, in order to get back to work, and your life, pain free and as soon as possible. The good news is that  if you do have a workplace injury in Ontario, Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) may be able to help cover the costs of our services.

As providers for WSIB’s program of care including low back, musculoskeletal, and shoulder pain, issues and injury, Amberlea Physiotherapy can help with treatment options that include physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic care, and more.

If you have suffered a work related injury, contact Amberlea Physiotherapy with your WSIB claim number today or click here for more information.

Custom Bracing

Sometimes, particularly when you’ve undergone surgery or are suffering from sustained (or chronic) injuries, which come with structural or functional damage, you may need custom bracing to help with the healing process. At Amberlea Physiotherapy, we offer several custom brace options to aid in your recovery, including ankle and knee braces, carpal tunnel braces, repetitive injury braces, and more.

Whether you suffer from osteoarthritis, are the unlucky recipient of an ACL or MCL tear which required surgery, have a repetitive wear injury such as tennis elbow, or are in the grips of any other kind of ligament injury, we can help. We take a holistic approach to healing, which may include a customized brace to suit your body and your lifestyle along with one or more of our other pain treatments.

Custom Orthotics

Given that they carry us through life, it stands to reason that your feet may, at some point, feel various aches and pains. And while some of these may be attributed to daily life, nothing that a warm foot bath and putting your feet up for a break won’t cure, some may be indicators of something more serious. Something that shouldn’t be ignored.

If you are experiencing consistent pain in your feet, and/or pain that travels from your feet to your ankles, knees or back, it’s time to get professional help. At Amberlea Physiotherapy we can help alleviate pain, caused by anything from bunions to heel spurs to tendonitis and more, by getting you properly fitted for custom orthotics using the latest in techniques and technologies.
