Neck pain, shoulder pain, where is this pain coming from?

As we engage in daily work routine nowadays, we find ourselves either on the computer sitting, mousing or just simply starring at the screen.  All of a sudden, mysterious pain and stiffness appears around different parts of our body.  These could include the top of our shoulder, side of our shoulder or even worse a tingling sensation travelling down the arm.

These are common symptoms and quite puzzling as we generally have no clue where this pain comes from and how to stop it. Most of the time, the sensation evolves and intensify over time until it no longer allows us to function properly.

Symptoms generally range between a sharp sensation, a dull achy pulling sensation, or tingling and numbness.  These symptoms could appear anywhere in the neck, shoulder, shoulder blade and down the whole arm.  Worse of all, these symptoms may evolve and change.

Generally speaking the above situation can stem from multiple source of injury from our neck to our shoulder, to our shoulder blade or even down to our elbow. Most often our posture dictates where our body gets stress.  As these stress builds, we sustain possible repetitive injuries to these areas. These postural stress can range from how you sit/stand, or the way you use of upper body.  As well, psychological stress and anxiety can acts as an underlying factor.

It is of most importance that a throughout analysis needs to be made to identify the pattern of pain. The location, intensity and site of pain are all indicators of certain elements of stress in our body.

With a proper physiotherapy assessment and diagnosis, many of these concerns can be narrow down to the root cause. We can actually identify why your particular neck or shoulder pain presents the way it is. At the end of the day, who wants to have temporary solution when we can find actual solutions through physiotherapy?
